Electric caddies: What's most affordable?

Updated: Apr 25

If you like to walk the course, but don't want to carry your golf bag or push a cart, electric trolleys (a.k.a., e-caddies) are for you. They're not cheap, but you can find models that are well under $1,000. Let's help you find the most affordable ones.

First, if you don't want to spend a lot, you'll need to forego some nice features, such as auto-follow, extra-big batteries, and built-in GPS. For example, the MGI Navigator Ai GPS+ Electric Golf Cart features a 36-hole battery and a GPS course-mapping system with 40,000 courses pre-loaded. Price: $1,895.

Here are some more affordable (sub-$1,000) electric trolleys, with lowest priced first:

BatCaddy X3 Sport - $350. This trolley looks spartan, but it will do the job. There's no remote, but it has 9 speeds so you can set it to cruise at your walking speed while holding the handle or closely following it. There's no rear tip wheel, so it's not ideal for steep hills. To get the lowest price, you'll have to settle for a lead-acid battery (27-hole range); but a lithium-ion battery model will cost you $500 (also 27-hole range) or $650 (45-hole range). If the X3 Sport is sold out, there's the X4 Sport for +$100.

Super E Caddy Weekender Electric Golf Cart - $599. 18-hole range. The Weekender offers two modes: manual push cart and electric push cart. Even if the battery's charge runs low, you can switch to manual mode and continue your game without interruption.

MGI Zip X1 Electric Golf Cart - $733. This is the least expensive MGI model, at $733 (Amazon). No remote, so you have to walk holding the handles or let it run by itself while staying close enough to steer as necessary of stop the cart. It has multiple speeds to accommodate your preferred walking pace. The lowest-price model has 18 holes of range, but you can upgrade to 36 holes. No GPS, but it has a phone holder so your phone is your GPS.

Alphard Club Booster V2 E-Wheels - $799. This converts your manual push cart to an electric trolley. Remove your cart's rear wheels and install the Club Booster and included cart brackets. The company offers different models/brackets that are compatible with various push-cart brands and models. It comes with a handheld remote control, or you can pair it with your smartphone and control it with that. Uses a lithium-ion battery with 27-hole range, and has rear tip wheels to handle steep hills.

Cart Tek Yellowstone Electric Trolley - $999. Cart Tek's least expensive model comes in just barely under $1,000, for the no-remote model. Add $100 and get a remote. Its lithium-ion battery is good for 27 holes of range.

Don't forget to check eBay

You may be able to find good deals on the e-trolleys above (as well as older models) on eBay. Some eBay retailers sell for less than what you'll find on the manufacturer websites and Amazon. You'll also find used e-trolleys, as well as more obscure brands (new and used).

If your budget is larger...

Most of the companies producing the products above also offer higher-end models, if you're willing to spend more or have to have premium features.

Stewart Golf is a leading brand in the remote-trolley market, but you'll pay considerably more for its products. The least-expensive Stewart model is the Vertx Remote, priced at $1,799.

CaddyTrek also offers two models of electric trolleys, priced at $1,095 and $1,895.
